In 1810 when the British ruled most of the archipelago, including Java, Magelang District was chosen as Mother of Magelang District. Appointed as Regent (Regent) is the Diamond State Angabehi Danoekromo.Setelah Magelang regency switch Netherlands dikusai Mas Angabehi Dnoekromo reappointed becomes Regent (Regent) with the title of Raden Tumenggung Danoeningrat based Besluit Gubermen Dutch Government on 30 November 1813. In these developments are, there are 4 Magelang Government Agency which have different functions, namely:
1. Government of Magelang Municipality (now City Government of Magelang)
2. District Government of Magelang District (now the Government of Magelang District)
3. Kedu Residence Office (now the Agency for Coordination of Region II which includes the ex Karisidenan Kedu and Surakarta)
4. National Military Academy / AMN (now the Military Academy)
The existence of four strategic agency, as the above turned out to have an extensive scale and in need of facilities and means to support their respective functions. Spatial issues become major problems in its development, so there kebijakasanaan to move the capital of Magelang District to other areas. In addition, another consideration is the later transfer of capital is more oriented to the regional development strategy that can be a stimulator for the growth and development of the region.
Furthermore, of the 4 alternatives which prepared the Capital District Mungkid, Muntilan, Secang and Mertoyudan, finally Village District Sawitan Mungkid selected to become the capital city of Magelang District with the name Mungkid based on PP No. 21 Tahun1982.
